How and when should we arrive to Finland?
The easiest way to come to Rovaniemi is to take a flight via Helsinki-Vantaa airport to Rovaniemi. You can also take a train from Helsinki to Rovaniemi, but the trip takes about 10-12 hours. From Helsinki-Vantaa airport there’s a direct bus line to Helsinki railway station.

How do we get to our accommodation from Rovaniemi airport/railway station?
RAMK arranges a free pick up from the Rovaniemi airport or railway station, if you arrive on Saturday 19 May or Sunday 20 May 2012. The student tutors meet you at the airport or railway station and take you to the dormitory by taxi.
If you arrive outside the pickup times, you need to take a taxi to the dormitory (address Väylätie 60). The student tutors will meet you there with your room key, let you into your room and show you the facilities and surroundings of the dormitory.
How do we get from Rovaniemi to Pori?
The summer school office arranges a bus for the participants from Rovaniemi to Pori. The travel takes about 10 hours.
When exactly does the program end?
The programme ends on Friday 15 June at noon, so basically you can leave Pori the same day or next day.
Where should we go from Pori after the summer school?
The easiest way from Pori to Helsinki is to take a bus. In this case, it might be best to book seats. You can also take a flight from Pori (via Helsinki) back to your home country, or where ever you wish to go. The airlines flying from Pori to Helsinki is Flybe (

How to get a visa to Russia?
For the US-citizen: We need to have the following information: name, nationality, date of birth, passport number, passport validity (date of expiration of your passport), name of authority and place granting the passport. The deadline for providing the info will be sent to all the participants by email.
After that we can provide you the letter of reference, with which you can apply for the visa in the USA.

As students are staying in dormitories, will linens, blankets, and pillows be provided?
The summer school will provide linens, blankets and pillows. So, students do not need to worry about that. However, you are expected to bring your own towels.
Is there an internet access in the dormitories?
In Rovaniemi: There is no fixed internet connection at the dormitory, but you can acquire a prepaid mobile internet connection to your laptop on your own expense. It is also possible to use a computer / access internet (WLAN) at all school campuses.
In Pori: There is an internet connection in the dormitory.
How far is the accommodation from the school?
In Rovaniemi: The dormitory is located about 1 km from Rantavitikka campus (business and technology) and 4 km from Ounasvaara campus (health care). Students need to walk their way to Rantavitikka campus, which takes about 15 minutes. To Ounasvaara campus there will be bus transportation.
In Pori: The dormitory is 1.5 km from the school. It takes app. 15 minutes to walk.
How far from the university is the closest grocery store and post office?
In Rovaniemi: The closest grocery store is on the way from the university to the dormitory, about 0,5 km from the both destinations. There are also big supermarkets and pharmacy about 0,5 km from the dormitory. Closest post office is inconjuction with the closest grocery store, about 0,5 km from the school, and the main post office is about 2,3 km away, in a city center.
In Pori: The grocery store, bank and pharmacy are about 1,5 km from the university and right next to the dormitory . Closest post office is about 1.5 km from the school, right next to the student dormitory, and the main post office is about 3.5 km away, in the city center.
How can I get from the school to the city?
In Rovaniemi: The best way is to walk to the city, which is about 3 km from the dormitory and from the school campuses. Of course you can also take a bus, which goes in every half an hour during daytime in the weekdays.
In Pori: The fastest way is to take a bus. It leaves from in front of the school and dormitory, and goes to the city centre, to the market place of Pori. It’s about 5 km from the school and 3.5 from the dormitory, so it’s possible to walk to the city. The university has a few bikes which you can borrow, so you can also cycle.
What can we do during the leisure time?
There are a lot of possibilities in both cities, in Rovaniemi and Pori.
Rovaniemi is a summer city. The Midnight sun shines from the beginning of June to the beginning of July. This is the time for dance, music and blossoming. The midnight Sun river valley landscape viewed from the summit of Ounasvaara is breathtaking. You can take a riverboat safari, go to the Arctic Circle, play football, play golf etc.
Pori is a coastal town, and there is a gorgeous beach, called Yyteri Beach, it is a sight in itself. If you like sports, there’s e.g. Finnish baseball and American football you can go see. There’s lot going on during the whole summer.
Both cities also have cinemas, cafes, clubs and other places for entertainment.
How should we be equipped for the Nature Trek?
Students must be prepared themselves for suitable all-weather warm clothes and a change of clothes during hiking and other outdoor activities.
Please bring the following equipments with you: rain coat, rubber or hiking boots, running/training shoes, suitable clothes for hiking, a change of clothes after hiking and other outdoor activities, warm clothes, small backpack, washing equipment, food and drink supplies for hiking trip and snacks.
