The objective of the Degree Programme in Information Technology is to give the student a variety of possibilities to develop expertise and professional skill in the field of Software Engineering (SE) – by providing sufficient basic knowledge of the implementation, structure and function of software and systems used in the field of software engineering from the standpoint of the student’s future profession. Studies emphasise not only expertise in software engineering and competence in practices, but also familiarity with the principles of business operation and general readiness for working life. Studies also emphasise the importance of lifelong learning, the ability to keep up with development in the field of information technology and skill to solve problems that arise in the field.
The role of software engineering is becoming increasingly important in our rapidly advancing information society. Information is one of the most important strategic resources in the development of companies and society. The spread of global information networks to within reach of nearly everyone has placed great pressure to develop on companies and society – new software has to be created and old solutions developed. At the same time embedded software is giving traditional technological products more intelligence and functions.
An information technology engineer can work in various design, maintenance and implementation jobs as well as challenging specialist and educational jobs in technology. Your title may be software designer, software engineer, ADP designer, system specialist or maintenance and support expert. The degree programme also provides good readiness to establish your own information technology company.
